Keep Fighting The Good Fight

God is not unjust so as to overlook your work
and the love you have demonstrated for his name

Today has been designated as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.

Forty-three years ago today, the Supreme Court legalized abortion in our country.  Since that day, countless of millions of innocents have been deprived of the opportunity to be born.

Imagine the numbers.

Any one of those millions could have been the person who discovered the cure to cancer, who revolutionized space travel, who eradicated Alzheimer’s, or any number of social ills.

The news reported, just the other day, that well over 60% of the population in the United States believes that abortion should continue to be legal, that people should have a right to choose to terminate the life of a child within the womb.

We could listen to those reports and say, “Why bother?  It’s hopeless.  Let’s give up and move to some other issue that has a chance of being addressed.”

But the letter to the Hebrews reminds us that God does not overlook the work of His people.

There is still a major issue out there that needs to be addressed:  the slaughter of millions of innocents, conceivably the greatest “terrorist attack” of our time.  Let us continue to work for the repeal of a law that so discriminates against life, the very life that we supposedly hold so dear in our Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Sobering statistics:  Between 2009 and 2010 an average of 1,962 abortions were performed between the Planned Parenthood of Merrillville and Friendship Family Planning of Gary. Based on reports from the Indiana Department of Health, an average of 38 babies per week are aborted between the two clinics. The 55 million abortions since Roe vs. Wade in 1973 represents 20 times the population of Chicago; twice the population of Australia; 90% of the population of Italy; 18,895 times the number of people killed in the Twin Towers on 9/11. FAITH ACTION:  Pray for safe travel for those going to Washington, D.C. to speak out against the horror of abortion and pray that all life — from conception to natural death — may once again be valued
