Is It Worth It?

27 Oct

Although they go forth weeping,
carrying the seed to be sown,
They shall come back rejoicing,
carrying their sheaves.  (Ps 126:6)

Life is all about toil.  Toil and labor.  Toil and labor and drudgery.  Toil and labor and drudgery and…

That is how we often feel, do we not?

We ask ourselves, “Is it worth it?”

What we labor under can often feel overwhelming and we wonder if we will be able to complete our tasks without breaking.

That is what we feel like while we are struggling to accomplish a task.

But when we finish?

Oh, sweet victory!

That is what the Psalmist captures in today’s responsorial psalm.  We are reminded that, whilst we toil and labor, we may feel overwhelmed.  However, when all is said and done, there is rejoicing that takes place when the task is complete.

As it happens in life, so it happens in death.

While we labor in this world, we are struggling to “go home” to the Lord.  There are times when we feel that we may never get there.  There are times when we may feel so overwhelmed that we want to give up.

However, that will all fall away when we walk into the Kingdom of our Lord.

Hold firm, therefore, and continue to struggle valiantly!

FAITH ACTION:  Before your day’s work today, pray the following prayer:

Direct, we beg you, O Lord, our actions
by your holy inspirations, and grant
that we may carry them out with your
gracious assistance, that every prayer
and work of ours may begin always with
you, and through you be happily ended.
Amen.
