As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers,
Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew,
casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen.
He said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.
He walked along from there and saw two other brothers,
James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets.
He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father
and followed him. (Mt 4:18-22)
Today is the Feast of St. Andrew, the brother of St. Peter.
Bishop Grutka used to love to tell about how proud he was to be named Andrew because Andrew, in one of the Gospels, was the one who brought his brother, Simon, to meet Jesus. Bishop Grutka would go on to say that when we died, the Lord would ask us a very important question, “Who did you bring to me?”
Introducing people to the Lord is an vital part of any Christian’s life.
By word and by deed, we bring people to Christ.
By word and by deed, we can chase people away from Christ as well.
Let us make sure that our words and deeds this day introduce others to the Lord.
