Importance

13 Dec

Jesus said to the crowds:
“Amen, I say to you,
among those born of women
there has been none greater than John the Baptist;
yet the least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”  (Mt 11:11)

One of the problems so many people have with the saints is that they often feel that they cannot measure up, that they will never be as good as Saint So-and-So.

Ah, but that is the beauty revealed in the Gospel today.

We all matter.

We all count.

We are all just as important as anyone else in God’s eyes.

Jesus, in speaking about John the Baptist, will acknowledge a bit later that John is a great man, Elijah returned.  However, everyone has importance.

That is helpful to us.

It might also be humbling to us.

Maybe we are not the ones who feel we do not measure up.

Maybe we are the ones who believe no one can ever measure up to us.

Humble pie or hope?  There is a message for everyone in today’s Gospel!

FAITH ACTION:  Pray for the people in your life whom you often put down or feel will never measure up.  Ask God to give them all the graces and gifts that they need.
