Home Sweet Home

17 May

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”  ~Maya Angelou

At our daily Mass, the response for the psalm today is “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.”  Home evokes all sorts of thoughts and emotions.  For many, home is a place of safety, warmth, and encouragement.  For others, home might be a place that is cold and sterile and, because of that, they long to leave it far behind.

Somehow, however, our souls know that our eternal home is nothing but life and love.  It is a place where we can be ourselves and be loved unconditionally.  It is a place where we will dwell with a God who loves us completely.

Finding a person to love us completely here on earth is a rare thing.  Even those who are incredibly close to one another still have foibles that tend to irritate each other.  Sometimes, the love between a loving couple is not as complete as it could be.  But in heaven, love is always at 100%, joy is always at 100%, acceptance is always at 100%.

There is nothing lacking in that heavenly kingdom and that is one of the reasons our soul longs to go there.  That is why we say, “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.”

While we may not be able to achieve 100% love and joy and acceptance in our homes here on earth, we can always give it a good try.  With the grace of God and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, all things are possible.

FAITH ACTION:  As we wait for that day when we are called home to our Heavenly Father, do all that you can to make your home here on earth a place of safety, live, and love.
