Good and upright is the Lord;
thus he shows sinners the way.
He guides the humble to justice,
he teaches the humble his way. (Ps 25:8-9)
Sinners, there is great hope for us! Our hope is in the Lord, our God, who shows sinners the way.
That is reason to celebrate.
However, lest our celebration be premature, there is a caveat: humility.
Some people think that, as long as they claim Jesus, they’ve got it made. He will show them the way and, practically, push them into heaven.
He does show us the way, yes. We, for our part, must follow that way. That takes a great deal of grace and a heaping helping of humility. Because, after all, a lack of humility is one of the reasons that we fall into sin.
To be humble before the Lord means accepting His will for our lives, renouncing evil, repenting our sinful ways.
The sinner does not like to do any of that.
The sinner wants to set his or her own course. The sinner wants to make the decisions. The sinner wants the Lord to bend to his or her will.
That is such a frustrating way to live.
So, why do we?
FAITH ACTION: Consider how the Lord is calling to you and ask Him for the grace to be humble before Him so that you may accept His will for you.
