He Fashioned Us

9 Oct

O LORD, you have probed me and you know me;
you know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.

My journeys and my rest you scrutinize,
with all my ways you are familiar.

Truly you have formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother’s womb.
I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made;
wonderful are your works.

My soul also you knew full well;
nor was my frame unknown to you
When I was made in secret,
when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth.  (Ps 139:1-3,13-15)

The month of October is also known as Respect Life Month.

I don’t like that.  Really, I don’t.

Don’t get me wrong.  It’s not because I do not respect life and life issues.  It’s just that I do not think simply having one month dedicated to life is enough.

Every day of the year should be a Respect Life day.  Every month.  Every year.

Because God fashioned us.  He knew us.  We are, indeed, fearfully and wonderfully made.

God knew what He was doing.

He made — and makes — nothing but the best.

That is because each of us have been made in the Divine Image of God.  Our souls are copies of our God.  We are beautiful and wondrous to behold.

Sadly, we do not often look at that reality.  Instead, we judge people by the externals.  We discount them and their lives because they are the “wrong” color or race or whatever.

We fail to see the brother or sister in the Lord.

When that happens, crimes against life crop up.  If we do not see God in another, we do not care whether that person lives or dies.  And, thus, abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, doctor-assisted suicide, genocide, war, poverty and a host of other sins against life come about.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Let us remember that.

Let us cherish that.

Let us protect that.

FAITH ACTION:  Pray for those who will lose their lives today because of crimes against life.  Pray, as well, that these many crimes against life will end.
