Give God The Gratitude That Is His Due

8 Nov

“I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.”  ~ e. e. cummings

This is the time of year that we can lose sight of all for which we generally give thanks.  We love the sun.  We love the beach.  We love boating and golfing and running and all sorts of other outdoor activities.

The darkening days, the barren trees, and the generally gloomy, damp weather reminds us that winter is soon on its way.  In short order, leaves will have been collected and we will await the snow.

As things get dark and gloomy outside, our spirits may flag as well.  We might find ourselves becoming more moody or even experience seasonal depression.  As we do so, we tend to forget to look to God and to give Him thanks for all that He continues to do for us.

God is not just with us in the sun and fun.  He is with us in the dark and gloom.  He is available to us and wants to help us to go through these days.  In order for Him to do so, He waits to be invited in.

Yes.  We are the gatekeepers of our soul.  We have to allow God in.  He will never force His way in.  He will never make us turn to Him.  That would be an infringement upon His gift to us of free will.

Looking around at life, e. e. cummings found God everywhere and in everything.  That was reason enough to sing God’s praises.  As we look around at life, we need to try to find God in everything and every person around us.  If we open ourselves up to God, we will find Him.

When we wake up, do we thank God for “this most amazing day” or do we grumble and groan as we enumerate our aches and pains?  Do we look with hope to the day or do we dread the day?  Do we see promise and hope in our day or do we see misery and hopelessness?

Our attitude will reflect the way we view our day and all that comes our way.  Join cummings in giving God the gratitude that is His due and let the day inform you as to the wonders of the Lord and the promise that He has in store for you.  Great and glorious things await you this day.  I hope that you find them and give thanks to God for them when found.

FAITH ACTION:   Ask God for the grace that you need to see the many gifts that He has in store for you and take the time to thank Him for the gift of life that He has given to you today.
