Don’t Miss Your Shot

10 May

“You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.”  ~ Wayne Gretzky

Great sports figures, no matter the sport, will all tell you the same thing:  unless you give one hundred percent of yourself, you cannot expect to make anything of yourself in the sport.  This is the same thing that war heroes say.  This is the same thing that famous doctors, authors, artists, and a whole host of other people say as well.  We have to pour ourselves into something if we expect to get anything out of it.

The same truth that holds for doctors, authors, artists, sports figures and others also holds for Christians:  we get from the faith proportionally what we put into the faith.  If we do not give ourselves one hundred percent to the practice of the faith, we will miss out on opportunity after opportunity to draw closer to the Lord.

Why is this?  Quite simply, if we are not busy putting into the practice of the faith, we are being distracted by the lures of the world.  The world cannot take us where we need to go because the world doesn’t know where the path to the Kingdom of God is located.  The world has paths to greed, sloth, avarice, and a whole host of other ills but it cannot get us to the Kingdom.  It has been too tainted by sin and given itself over to sin.

Do you want to get closer to the Lord today?  It doesn’t happen magically.  You need to do something about it.  Work on it.

FAITH ACTION:  Don’t hesitate or slack off.  Make sure that you do everything possible for the Lord today.
