Don’t Be In Such A Hurry

7 Nov

“God is not in a hurry.  You are.  It’s why you are tired.  It’s why you are anxious and stressed and disappointed.”  ~ Unknown

They say that if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.  Our plans are so very finite.  God’s plan is infinite.  He has plans from the very first moment of creation through to the very end of the world.  He is definitely a “big picture” kind of person.  We, on the other hand, might think that we have big plans and dreams; but, they cannot even begin to compare with all that God has in store.

While we might be able to agree with that statement on an intellectual level, we certainly do not seem to agree with it as it plays out in our daily lives.  We often focus on ourselves, our wants, our dreams, and our desires.  Keeping the focus on ourselves and not getting what we want, or not getting it fast enough, places incredible stress upon us.

What we need to do in order to decrease the stress is to let God into our lives and to ask God to reveal His plans for us.  If we can better see where were are supposed to be heading and what we are supposed to be doing, we might be more inclined to embrace God’s will for us rather than trying to assert our own will.

We can only do that if we take some necessary time out of our daily lives.  If we keep ourselves going at a frenetic pace, we do not take the time to pray and reflect.  We also do not take the time to perform the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.  Those are not just mere suggestions, you know.  They are what God wants us to do with our lives.

We cannot be busy about serving others, though, if we only think about serving ourselves.  Our whims and our plans are not more important than God.  They are not more important than others.  Taking the time for prayer and doing good works helps us to open our minds and hearts to larger realities and larger possibilities.  They help open our minds and hearts to God.

FAITH ACTION:  Take time today to do the important things —  prayer, good works, reflection — before you attend to the other things in your life.
