Do You Weary God?

21 Jul

O my people, what have I done to you,
or how have I wearied you? Answer me!
For I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
from the place of slavery I released you;
and I sent before you Moses,
Aaron, and Miriam.  (Mi 6:3-4)

In the Book of the Prophet Micah, we hear the Lord bring His case against His people, Israel.

It sounds rather pathetic, does it not, that a people could so ignore God?  These same people, God brought out of the land of Egypt.  They were in abject slavery and poverty.  They had no freedom of their own.  They could not worship as they wished.

God sent them a deliverer, Moses, to lead them out of Egypt into a land of freedom.

Yet they turned their backs on Him.

Now, members of the jury, before you too hastily shout “Guilty” regarding these people, take a long hard look at our lives.

God sent us a deliverer even better than Moses:  Jesus.

Jesus died on the cross to set us free from sin and death.

And yet, we so often turn our backs on God, rejecting Jesus as our leader, and choosing to live contrary to the laws of God.

Instead of living as a faithful people, we live our own lives as we reject the Lord.  We are putting ourselves into the same condition as the Israelites of old.  Only, instead of being enslaved by a world power, Egypt, we are in danger of being enslaved by the power of this world: sin.

Break loose the shackles and follow God this day!

FAITH ACTION:  Ask the Lord for the grace to embrace His will for you today.
