Do Not Be Afraid To Trust

12 Nov

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”  ~ Corrie ten Boom

Corrie ten Boom, along with her father and other family members, helped many Jews avoid the Holocaust by hiding them in their own home.  Eventually, they were caught.  Corrie was arrested and sent to the Ravensbruck concentration camp. Her most famous book, The Hiding Place, is a biography that recounts the family’s story and how Corrie found hope while she was imprisoned.

While in prison, Corrie did not know what each day would bring.  There was so much suffering and so much death around her that any day could have been the day that she would die.  In the midst of so much pain, grief, and struggle, it is often hard to find hope.  Yet, she knew something that we often forget.  She knew to trust her fate to God.

While her future might not be known, her God was most certainly known to her.  As she placed her faith and trust in God, she found the strength that she needed to survive.  Corrie was eventually released.  She found out at a later time that her release had been a clerical error and a week after her release, all the women in her cell block had been marched to the gas chamber and put to death.  But for a clerical error, she would have been among them.

We never know what is going to happen to us on this earth.  We never know what God has in store for us.  But, if we have faith and trust in God, He can help us through the times on earth that we believe we could not survive and He can help us survive even death itself as He brings us to Himself in eternity.

Our futures might very well be unknown.  But God is a known factor in our lives.  There is no need to fear, for God will be with us always and He alone can help us escape what waits to ensnare us.

FAITH ACTION:  Make an act of faith and trust in God a part of your morning prayer ritual.
