Confused?

“It ain’t the heat, it’s the humility.”  ~ Yogi Berra

It is hot outside.  Very hot.  Not only that, there is also an ozone alert warning those with medical issues that it could be a bad day for breathing.  Because of that, of course, I went to the quotes on the internet to find something about “heat”.  As I was browsing the quotes, I found one from Yogi Berra.

For those of you of my generation and above, there is no need to explain.  For you young-uns out there, Yogi Berra was a baseball catcher, manager, and coach who managed to mangle almost any quote, just as he did with today’s quote.  Instead of humidity, he said humility.  He would confuse people with what he said and was often the butt of a joke for it.

Confusion often reigns in our daily lives.  We hear something that has a partial truth to it as well as a partial falsehood and we think to ourselves, “That’s not right.”  We try to figure out what was wrong with what we heard and if there are any implications for us in the matter.

It is important to be a clear as possible so that we do live our lives in confusion.  Confusion clouds the mind and the judgment.  Confusion leads to missteps and misdeeds.  Confusion can cause us to say things and do things that we would never have considered.

In order to be as clear as possible, we need to remain focused on the task at hand.  As we consider our spiritual lives, we need to be focused on God and His love and truth.  God is never confusion.  He is always crystal clear in His love and care for us.  He will always give us the enlightenment that we need to make good choices if we ask Him to do so.

In order for that to happen, we have to remove the things in our lives that confuse us.  We need to veer away from the contemplation of sin as well as the choice to commit sin.  Instead, we should focus ourselves on God by prayer, reflection, and good works.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to give you clarity today so that all your decisions may be made with wisdom and grace.
