Today I have set before you
life and prosperity, death and doom. (Dt 30:15)
Choices.
They are things that confront us each day.
Do I wake up on time or hit the snooze alarm? Do I have a good breakfast or eat on the road? Do I drive defensively or like a maniac? Do I help a co-worker or watch that co-worker get into trouble? Do I, do I, do I?
Each choice we make reflects a certain value or set of values that we hold to be more dear.
Some of the things that we value are quite admirable. Some of our so-called values are not really values at all. We are just deceiving ourselves.
Lent gives us the opportunity to perform a fair share of introspection. We are called to look within and see what we value most so that our choices may comes as close as possibly to those of the Lord.
There is a reason for all of this, you know.
Choosing wisely, choosing to do what the Lord would ask of us, reflects a desire to live with the Lord for eternity at the end of our days.
Choosing poorly, choosing against the wishes of the Lord, reflects a contempt for the Lord that could spell certain doom for us at the end of our days.
Following the Lord involves choice.
Each day of our lives, we are invited to choose the Lord.
FAITH ACTION: At the end of our days, we will be judged according to the choices that we have made. Choose well today.
