Check Your Attitude

5 Sep

“Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up.”  ~ Allen Klein

“Watch your attitude, young man.”  I heard these words quite often from the sisters who taught at my grade school as I was growing up.  I heard them directed at many classmates and, yes, I heard them directed at me as well.  “Watch your attitude.”

Of course, when a person is young, it is difficult to understand the full import of that message.  Attitudes come in all shapes and sizes.  Attitudes can color everything that we think, say, and do.  Attitudes have taken people to great heights and attitudes have brought down powerful people.  Attitude is crucial.

What is the attitude of our faith?  Does our faith mean so much to us that we want to spend as much time as possible with the Lord?  Does our faith mean so much to us that we want to tell others about the Lord?  Does our faith mean so much to us that we will go to any length to serve the Lord?

If it does, we will begin our day in prayer.  We will look at the possibilities in the day and focus upon the things that will make us better, help others, and help us to grow closer to the Lord.  Our day, then, does not begin with action.  Our day begins with attitude.

Our world is a dark and dreary place.  It has been steeped in sin for thousands of years.  It needs the light — the light that emanates from Christ and is spread by the followers of Christ.  If we do not share and spread that light, our world will remain dark and dreary and dismal.  Be the color the world needs.  Be the light that the world seeks.  Be the flavor that will spice up the world.

Check your attitude.  Do not blend in.  Stand out.

FAITH ACTION:  Think about the day ahead of you, look for all the positive aspects in it, and then make it a great day.
