Cause Happiness

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.”
~ St. Teresa of Calcutta

I have a parishioner who makes this quote of Mother Teresa look easy.  On Facebook, she is always posting statements of love and encouragement.  She always reminds people that they are loved and cared for.  They are not just random posts that are meaningless, though, because she lives her posts.  She volunteers in many activities to help others know that they are loved.  As a matter of fact, It is hard to be in her presence and not feel loved.

Mother Teresa would say that is precisely the way to be.  Each and every one of us has been given gifts by God to be used for the benefit of others.  When we let others know that they are special and that they are loved, we change their world if only for a moment.

Why not change the world for the good this day?  There are too many opportunities out there to sour the world and make it a worse place for others.  We do not have to gravitate toward those options, though.  We have the power to choose and, in choosing, the power to make things better for all.

Mother Teresa changed the world radically and she did it a person at a time.  She was not on a crusade to change the entire world.  Her crusade was more focused: the next person she saw.  If it was a person who was hungry, she fed that person.  If it was a person who was in a gutter dying, she brought that person in to help that person die with dignity.  If it was a person who felt lonely, she brought the love of Christ.

In changing the life of one person, we can begin to effect change in the entire world.

FAITH ACTION:  Be the cause of someone’s happiness today.
