Begin With Yourself

“I want to make this world perfect.”  ~ Malala Yousafzai

Such a noble aspiration.  Who wouldn’t want to make this world perfect.  What a wonderful world this would be if everything and everyone were perfect.  Could you even imagine the love that would be shown to all people?  The respect?  The honesty?  The care and concern?  How beautiful.

Considering the possibility, I am sure that there are many people who would rapidly say, “It’s not possible?”  Why is it not possible?  I would posit that they would say it’s not possible because they know that they themselves would not be willing or able to do what needs to be done to contribute to the perfection of the world.

They may know that they would not be able to love everyone.  They may know that they would not forgive everyone who injured them.  They may know that they would not have the patience to deal with the poor, the needy, the ignorant, or the forlorn.

And if they cannot do it, then, no, the world will never be perfect.

“I want to make this world perfect.”  If that is the battle cry of any individual, it must begin with self.  If we are not willing to strive for perfection, the world can never be perfect.  It is only as perfect — or as imperfect — as each individual.

Perfection is possible.  Living the life of Christ is possible.  Being a faithful and responsible child of God is possible.  It begins with a person’s volition and continues with a person’s constant work.  It may not become perfect today or tomorrow.  But, if we are willing to work at it, it can become perfect some day.

Are you willing to give it a go?
