Become A New Creation

6 Mar

Whoever is in Christ is a new creation:
the old things have passed away;
behold, new things have come.  (2 Cor 5:17)

Change is something that is very uncomfortable to many people.  Because of it, they abhor change and avoid it at all cost.

The problem with that is that if we do not change, we become stagnant.  If we stagnate, we are no longer any good for others or for ourselves.

Even armed with that knowledge, however, many avoid change.

They prefer predictability.  They prefer remaining in their “comfort zone”.

Christ calls us to change.  He calls us to become perfected.

We can only do that if we allow Him to come into our lives and give us the grace necessary to change.

Lent is a season geared to change.

That is why we are asked to rid ourselves of things to which we typically cling (for many that means giving up sodas, chocolate, sweets, et cetera) and to do some positive good as well (volunteering, doing acts of kindness for others, et cetera) throughout the season.

If we are changing, if the old order of sin is being removed from our lives, we will naturally reflect that change by doing new things in the Lord.

FAITH ACTION:  Do not be afraid to try something new in practicing the faith today.  If you have never visited a nursing home, volunteer to do so.  If you have never helped at a soup kitchen, try it.
