Beauty

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God’s handwriting.”  ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Emerson’s writing has always impressed me.  Today’s quote is spectacular as it reminds us of the beauty all around us.  God’s creation is astounding but so many people fail to take the time to look.  Today especially, we seem to be so keyed in to our selves.  Wherever you look, you will most likely see people looking down at their devices.  Accidents happen all the time because people use their devices while driving and that takes their eyes off of the road.

If you’ve ever had a chance to see groups of young people together whether they be in grade school or high school, you will see a number of detached people using their cell phones.  They are texting friends, sometimes friends that are in the same room with them.  Family members text while at the dinner table together.  Again, sometimes the family members text each other rather than speaking with one another.

If we are so hyper-focused upon that device in our hands, how can we possibly notice other people around us?  And if we cannot notice other people around us, how will we ever notice the beauty of nature that surrounds us?  Quite simply, we won’t.

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful,” Emerson writes.  How very true.  Look around you today.  Take in all the splendor around you if for no other reason than because God made all of it just for you.

FAITH ACTION:  Take time to admire the beauty of the people and the world around you today.
