“Today you could be standing next to someone who is trying their best not to fall apart. Whatever you do today, do it with kindness in your heart.” ~ Unknown
At first glance, one might think that today’s quote is non-sensical. Surely no one would be able to stand next to us ready to fall apart and not have us notice it. That is what we think to ourselves. However, think harder. How many times has that other person been you? How many times have we tried to hide from others the turmoil that roiled within ourselves? How many times have we felt as if we were falling apart? How many times have we hidden that because we did not want others to feel less of us?
Now, all of a sudden, it doesn’t sound so non-sensical, does it? Now, all of a sudden, it makes sense. Yes, the person standing next to us might be on the verge of falling apart. That person might be a total stranger or that person might be a family member, significant other, or good friend. If the other person chooses to hide what he or she is feeling, we might never know.
What we say or do, however, can provide solace to another or push the other over the edge. Think again to our own experiences. It might not have taken much to push us over completely, right? When dealing with others, perhaps it would do us a lot of good to remember our own experiences. Doing so, we might choose kindness today rather than another kind of attitude that could be detrimental to another.
Kindness always wins.
FAITH ACTION: Determine to speak and act with kindness today, even if the other person is not.
