Be Cordial

“Don’t treat people the way they treat you.  Treat people the way God treats you.”
~ Dave Willis

We all know the “Golden Rule”:  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  As good as that rule is, the rule above is even better: Treat people the way God treats you.  There are many times in our lives when we do not treat people well because, quite frankly, we do not treat ourselves well.  We may not think much of ourselves, think that we are failures, or think that we do not deserve any kindness.  That being the case, why treat anyone else with kindness or respect.

However, if we take into account the total, absolute, complete unconditional love of God, we would have to admit that there has never been a time when God has not loved us nor will there ever be a time.  Therefore, if God loves us so completely and treats us with the utmost kindness and regard, we must do the same for others.

We are all one family.  As much as some might not want to admit that, it is true.  We are all brothers and sisters in the Lord.  We all have the same Father.  We all are being called to the same destination.  Since that is the case, we should be supremely motivated to help each other along the way to the Kingdom.

And, if you want to think about it, it is much easier to be kind to another person than to be unkind.  Kindness is generally met with kindness.  Unkindness can be met with ambivalence at least to hostility at worst.

Make life easier for yourself today.  Make life easier for others today.  Be kind as God is kind.

FAITH ACTION:  Resolve to treat all people with cordial respect today.
