Be A Faithful Steward

2 Sep

Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ
and stewards of the mysteries of God.
Now it is of course required of stewards
that they be found trustworthy.  (1 Cor 4:1-2)

St. Paul, in his first letter to the Church in Corinth, writes about the way we should be regarded: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Servants and stewards.

Very important elements.  Crucial elements.  Critical elements.

What is the hallmark of a servant and steward?

Paul tells us: “that they be found trustworthy”.

That certainly is crucial.

Servants and stewards are given much trust.  If you have ever known someone who has acted like a servant, you know that to be the case.  A servant is put in great trust.  That person can go, unfettered, throughout someone’s entire domain — be it business or household — and has access to everything.  If that servant is not trustworthy, the person can lose a lot.

A steward is put in charge of everything as well.  If that steward is not trustworthy, someone is going to lose out big time.

If we fail as a servant of Christ and steward of the mysteries of God, we fail not only ourselves and not only those to whom we have been sent to serve.  We also fail Christ, Himself.

I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to hear when I see God face-to-face is, “You failed me.”

FAITH ACTION:  To what, or to whom, has God entrusted you?  Have you been faithful?  Make sure you are today.
