Be A Cause Of Joy

15 Sep

“I tell you, there will be rejoicing
among the angels of God
over one sinner who repents.”  (Lk 15:10b)

Today’s Gospel dealt with the “lost”, whether it be a lost sheep, a lost coin, or a lost child.

The implication of the stories is very clear:  God searches out the lost and, when they are found, rejoices.

Jesus indicated at one point in time in His own ministry that this was why He was born, that He not lose any that had been given to Him.

Our God, in many ways, is a “jealous” God.  He created us in His image and likeness and, therefore, does not want to lose any of us.  As a matter of fact, He has proven that He would go to great lengths — sending His very own Son to us and dying on the cross to save us — to ensure that we had every chance possible.

You know what that means.

That means that the onus is upon us.

We are the ones who need to respond.

God will do everything that He can to save us.  Everything, that is, short of actually forcing us to be saved.

God loves us so much that He gave us free will to decide for ourselves.

So, what say you?  You want to be lost?  Or do you want to cause much joy in heaven today and be found?

FAITH ACTION:  Spend a good amount of time in prayerful contemplation this day.  As part of your contemplation, make a good examination of conscience.  Afterwards, pray a sincere act of contrition.
