Waiting With God

21 Dec

“Advent is the season that can remind us God is working while we’re waiting and we’re really waiting with God.” ~ Louie Giglio

Waiting is not something that we do easily or patiently. Our human nature seems to be hardwired to expect things right away. Immediate gratification is often sought over waiting for something. If we can get something else right now, we might even take that instead of waiting for what we really wanted or needed.

Advent is all about waiting and that is one of the reasons that this season is so tough on people. It is really tough this year – as tough as it can be as a matter of fact – because Advent is a full four weeks. Most years, the Fourth Week of Advent is a partial week. Sometimes, it is only one or two days. But this year? We get to wait four full weeks.

What has this waiting done to you and for you? Has it unsettled you any or has it helped you to focus better upon Christmas? I think today’s quote really puts into perspective the waiting of Advent and I share it with you today in case the season has worn you down too much.

Have you ever considered the fact that you are waiting with God? That’s a powerful concept. We usually say that we are waiting on God to do something. We’re waiting on Him to answer our prayers, we’re waiting on Him to help us find a new job, and we’re waiting on Him to tell us what He wants of us.

The waiting of Advent, however, is not a waiting for God. It is a waiting with God. God is working on the fuller picture for our lives and at the same time waiting with us so that we have the strength and grace that we need.

FAITH ACTION: Ask God to give you the grace that you need to wait for the return of His Son.
