Resolved: Be More Thankful

1 Jan

“We don’t need more to be thankful for, we just need to be more thankful.”  ~ Carlos Castaneda

For the New Year, people often make resolutions for themselves.  Many times, their resolutions revolve around ways to better themselves, to make themselves more noticed or more profitable. While there is nothing wrong with that, there is a problem if the resolutions are being made under the assumption that they don’t have enough or that they are not blessed.

Too often, we focus upon what we do not have and we fail to take into account all that we do have.  We are incredibly blessed people.  For starters, we woke up alive today.  I think that goes into the positive column, don’t you?  We have gifts and talents that help us throughout the day and throughout our lives.  Do we thank God regularly for all that we have?  I am dubious about that answer.

Perhaps one of our New Year’s Resolutions could be to be more thankful.  We need to quit looking at what we don’t have and/or what we want and instead focus upon what we do have and how those blessings are positives for us.  God doesn’t leave any of us in a lurch.  He blesses us daily.  Maybe it’s time to thank Him more intentionally and on a daily basis as well.

You might be surprised at what can happen if you accomplish that goal of thankfulness.  Being thankful for our blessings helps us to realize just what we have and how much we can do with it.  When we utilize our blessings for the benefit of others, we receive even more and thus have even more for which to be thankful.  And that, my friends, is a good problem to have.

Thank you, God, for the gift of another year.  Happy New Year, one and all!

FAITH ACTION:  Make it a point to thank God each day for the blessings that He gives to you.
