All Is A Miracle
“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child — our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” ~
Today’s quote has a real profound implication for all of us. In many ways, we set the bar way too high for God. We think that if God is going to interact or intervene in our lives, He has to do so with lightning, pillars of fire, or some other great and awesome spectacle. That is the furthest from the truth, though. The miracle of God in our lives is that He is around us at all times, always accessible, always sustaining.
If we set the bar too high, we will not recognize God as He stands next to us in another person. We will not realize that it is God reaching out to us in the hands of another. We will not see God in the poor and the needy.
We have to take away that high bar and rethink our relationship with God and God’s relationship with us. We shouldn’t make God jump through hoops to be our friend. We shouldn’t make God come to us in flashy displays. We should, instead, do the best that we can to recognize God in the here and now and in all the people and experiences that surround us on a regular basis.
If we do that, we will better understand why Hanh said that “all is a miracle.”
