Just Remember, They’re Watching

“One of the most important things I’ve learned in life is to ignore most of what people say.  I watch what they do instead.”  ~ Amanda Patterson

If you want to see what people believe and what is most important to them, all you have to do is watch them.  That’s right, watch them.  Don’t listen to them because their words could be empty and misleading.  Instead, watch what they do.  That will prove to you who they are and what they believe in.

If you believe that, and I most certainly hope you do, you must remember something that is just as important:  people are watching you.  Yes.  You may have been telling many people how important the Lord is to you.  You may have been telling people that honesty and integrity are crucial ingredients in a person’s life.  You may have been telling them all of that.  However, are you living it?

When parents tell children not to lie but the children watch their parents lie to others often, the lesson they learn is that it’s all right to lie.  When parents tell children not to drink or not to smoke but they engage in those activities on a regular basis, what do you think the children are actually learning?  They’re learning that it’s all right to drink and smoke, of course.

If we tell people that we believe in the Lord, Jesus Christ, we need to be living the values that the Lord exemplified in His life among us.  If we say that we are faithful Christians but we reject the teachings of the Lord, we are showing people that we are frauds.  I could go on and on with examples but I’m sure you get the point.

Before you do anything today, just remember that other people are watching you to see if your life truly conforms to your words.

FAITH ACTION:  Be a good example of a Christian today not only by word but more importantly by deed.
