We Lack For Nothing

“When you realize there is no lacking, the whole world belongs to you.”  ~ Lao Tzu

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “lack” is defined as
1: to be deficient or missing
//time is lacking for a full explanation
2: to be short or have need of something
//he will not lack for advisers
//The area does not lack for good restaurants.

We often look at our lives and identify what is lacking.  There is something in our human nature that always seems to desire more, more, more.  If someone else receives something and we don’t, we often begrudge them their possessions.  This feeds into the old “keeping up with the Joneses” mentality.  None of that is healthy for us emotionally or spiritually.

Tzu tells us that the whole world belongs to us the moment we realize that there is no lacking.  When we can place all our hope and trust in the Lord and know in our hearts that He will give us whatever is good for us, we will have all that we need.  Will we have what others possess?  Most likely we will not because each needs something different.  But will we have what we need? Absolutely.

That is the beauty of God.  He knows what we need and He provides what we need.  Our human nature gets in the way with our many wants.  To be clear, though, a want is not a need.  It is often totally separate from a need.  Many times a want can put us in jeopardy.  A need would never do that.  God takes care of our needs.  We should never place our wants in higher priority than our needs and we should never blame God for not fulfilling all of our wants.

God fulfills all of our needs.  He leaves us lacking for nothing.  When we realize that, we do, indeed, possess the whole world.

FAITH ACTION Be grateful for the many needs that God has supplied.
