Do Not Be Afraid To Twinkle

24 May

“We are all of us stars, and we deserve to twinkle.”  ~ Marilyn Monroe

We all want to be noticed.  We want to be considered by others.  The fact of the matter is that we can be noticed not only by some but by all.  It is absolutely possible.  That is because we shine with the beauty and glory of God.  We were created in His immortal image and likeness.  Thus, “we deserve to twinkle.”

Some believers do not like that, though.  They don’t want to twinkle.  They don’t want to shine.  They don’t want to sparkle.  They would rather remain in the background largely unnoticed.  They have an aversion to attention.  They are afraid that, if they catch the attention of others, they will have to live their lives to a higher standard.  They are afraid that they “cannot be themselves,” whatever that means.

If that is the case, perhaps “themselves” are something less than what God wants them to be.  Perhaps “themselves” are not always kind or charitable.  Perhaps they are not the leaders that they should be.  The danger of remaining in that condition is that their “twinkle” will soon tarnish and they will be less and less the people that God wants them to be.

We were not made to tarnish.  We were not made to be unnoticed.  We were not made to hide under a bushel basket.  No.  We were made to shine.  Twinkle away, children of God.  You not only deserve it, God invites you to do so.

FAITH ACTION:  Let your faith shine forth for everyone to see today.  Be that light in the dark for another person.
