Live The Life You Have Imagined
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
In his song, Imagine, John Lennon finishes by singing, “Imagine all the people sharing all the world… You…You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.” That song has been the mantra of many a peace movement throughout the years. It proposes the wonderful thought of people living in peace and working in peace rather than divided by strife. That people that have used the song as a rallying point want us to consider the possibility of working together and loving all the people we encounter. They want us to ask ourselves to imagine a world in peace.
Imagining is nice. It can make a person feel good. It can set some positive tones. However, imagining has to move from the mind to the real world if it is going to do any good. Now, I’m not saying that it’s bad to imagine idyllic times. I’m just agreeing with Thoreau. If you’re going to imagine, go the extra mile and live the dream. When you live the dream, you invite others to live it with you and that is how you bring the dream to a firm reality.
If you want to talk about the consummate person who lived the dream, all you have to do is mention the name of Jesus. He had a dream that His people would live in peace. He believed that His people could be one. He was willing to put His life on the line to bring that dream about. While we might still be divided, we are on the way to the unity that Jesus dreamed because the Holy Spirit guides us and informs us that we are brothers and sisters in the Lord and, therefore, we are one family.
Don’t just think about the dream. Live it today so that others might come to know of the Lord’s great love for His people. That is the way to make the dream real while, at the same time, keeping the dream alive.
FAITH ACTION: Today, don’t just say it, live it. By word and deed, show the world that you believe in Jesus Christ.
