The Way, The Truth, And The Life

“Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there.”  ~ Clarence W. Hall

I often think about Jesus’ trial.  Pilate and Jesus had a rather philosophical conversation as Pilate was interrogating Jesus.  “Truth?  What is truth?” was one of the questions that Pilate asked because Jesus had stated that He had come to testify to the truth.  Pilate’s response was a reflection of the fact that “truth” was often subjective.  Pilate, a consummate politician, knew that “truth” was packaged and created by people to prove their opinions.

But the truth of which Jesus spoke was eminently different.  Jesus called Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  The truth of God is eternal and immutable.  There is no changing it.  Those who try to use it for their own good are generally proven to be charlatans.

We celebrate Easter again today.  For one week, we celebrate the Easter event, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.  This is the quintessential truth:  death has no power over Jesus.  Since Jesus rose from the dead, He effectively destroyed death and restored life.  You can say whatever you want about Jesus Christ but you cannot take away that truth.  The resurrection is real.

Truth was put into the grave after a horrific crucifixion but death cannot destroy life nor can it destroy truth.  Jesus is truth and life.  Embrace that reality today and let the Lord guide you to an inner peace that the world can never take away.

FAITH ACTION:  Reflect upon the glory of Easter and thank Jesus for the hope of resurrection that He gives to you.
