Bless Us And Preserve Us

1 Jan

“May God be with me! May Heaven bless this New Year. May it be a year of fruitfulness, of peace and prosperity; may it be a year of peace and unity for all mankind; may the world be freed of cholera.”  ~ Giacomo Meyerbeer

I went online to look for “New Year Quotes” and, of the many that came up, was the one above.  I laughed when I first saw it and then thought to myself, “different illness, same problem.”  In Meyebeer’s time, cholera was a killer of many.  Last year and continuing on into this year, it’s not cholera, it’s the coronavirus.

Many of us are suffering from “pandemic fatigue”.  Because of that, it is hard to have hope.  It is hard to look ahead with any kind of positivity.  We dread the weeks and months that we will still have to face the pandemic and deal with the restrictions that the pandemic demands.  So many people have not had a chance to see loved ones or to travel for entertainment or relaxation.  Vacations have turned into staycations.  For many, hope is minimal.

We should not be afraid, though.  We should hold on to hope.  Cholera was an issue once but they treat it much easier now.  The bubonic plague was an issue once.  So was smallpox.  So were many other diseases and pandemics.  We have seen misery and suffering and have gone through them.  We will make it through our present situation as well.

Perhaps the best thing to do is to make today’s quote our “New Year Prayer”.   May God be with us! May Heaven bless this New Year. May it be a year of fruitfulness, of peace and prosperity; may it be a year of peace and unity for all people; may the world be freed of COVID-19.

I pray that you have a Blessed, Healthy, and Fruitful 2021.

FAITH ACTION:  Pray for a year of peace and unity for all people and an end to the pandemic.
