He Lightens Our Load

29 Dec

This Flower, whose fragrance tender with sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor the darkness everywhere.
True man, yet very God, from sin and death He saves us
And lightens every load

Jesus did not become one of us merely to save us from sin and death. Certainly, that would be more than enough. However, Jesus goes the extra mile. He wants to lighten our loads. In one of the most comforting passages in the Gospels, Jesus tells His people, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” (Mt 11:28)

We are burdened by many things. Some of us worry about the health of spouses or children or siblings. Some of us worry about whether or not we will be able to keep our jobs. Still others worry about the future. Our burdens can so overwhelm us that we lose sight of what we need to do in our daily lives.

Jesus tells us to give Him our burdens and to accept His yoke. He promises us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. There is one thing of which we can be certain: God never says something that He does not mean. If Jesus promised to take our burdens upon Himself, He will do so for us. That is how much He loves us.

Do not fear to give up your burdens. Some people hang on to them too tightly. Let the Lord have them and see what He can and will do for you.

FAITH ACTION: Give your burdens to the Lord and ask Him to lighten the load that you are carrying in your life.
