The Light Of Faith

10 Dec

The King shall come when morning dawns and light triumphant breaks,
when beauty gilds the eastern hills, and life to joy awakes.

There is nothing worse than living in the darkness of sin. Doing so leads us closer to eternal death each day that we remain in that condition. Only the pure light of Christ’s love can shine on the path that leads to His Kingdom. That is why we say that “the King shall come when morning dawns and light triumphant breaks.” Jesus is that light and its shining heralds Christ’s return.

On that day, everything will change. The world, as we know it, will be no more. The dead will rise and those who were faithful will see the glory of God for all eternity. That is something that every soul seeks. However, every soul encounters opposition to that search. Sin and death wants to do everything that it can to overwhelm us so that we remain in darkness.

That’s the beauty of the light, however. Darkness, no matter how dark it might become, can never overwhelm the light. Prove it to yourself. Take a flashlight, go into the darkest area of your home – as pitch dark as you can find – and turn on the light. Everything is illuminated. Even the darkest areas in the room can be seen in sketchy detail from the light you hold in your hands.

We also hold a light in our souls: the gift of faith that God has given to each of us. It is the light of Christ that was lit when we were baptized. It illumines the dark for us and leads us home. Don’t cover that light with a basket constructed by sin. Instead, let the light shatter the darkness of sin and lead you safely home where “beauty gilds the eastern hills, and life to joy awakes.”

FAITH ACTION: Reflect upon the great gift of faith given to you by God and thank Him in your prayer today.
