Andersen is one of my favorite authors. He was quite a prolific writer giving us many novels and poems. Of course, he is most remembered for his many fairy tales. How many times have I been entranced by them in my childhood! His fairy tales really opened my mind and imagination in all sorts of ways. I think he is one of the reasons that I fell in love with reading at a young age.
He touches me again today, not with a fairy tale but with his view of our life. Imagine thinking about God’s finger writing our lives in fairy tale form. Fairy tales are extravagant. They generally reflect victory. While there might be pain or sadness involved, the end is generally triumphant.
We go through the whole gamut in our lives. We have ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs, sorrows and joys. The ultimate victory and joy happens at the lowest point of our lives: death. It is in death that the ultimate “fairy tale”, if you will, is written: new and eternal life.
Imagine being able to be joined to Jesus’ resurrection. That is what awaits each of us at the end of our days. What a wonderful thought. Hold on to that thought today as your life continues to unfold on your journey to the Kingdom.
