Our Belief Keeps Us Going

“I believe in pink.  I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.  I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”  ~ Audrey Hepburn

I think the old expression, “Fake it ’til you make it”, would apply a lot to today’s quote.  There are times that people are not sure that they can do something.  They are encouraged to give it a try.  If they fail, they are encouraged to try again.  And again.  It is the persistence that hones their belief that they will be able to succeed.  More often than not, they eventually do accomplish what they set out to do.

Belief plays a driving force in our lives.  If we do not believe in something — and, just as importantly, do not believe in ourselves — we will not be able to succeed.  Our every move, our every work, should be based on our belief that we can accomplish our goal.

We all know people who are lacking on the belief spectrum.  They do not believe that they will be able to succeed.  They do not believe that they deserve any chance.  They do not believe in themselves.  They walk around aimlessly and have an air of sorrow and regret around them most of the time.  They regret not trying but are too frightened to try because they do not believe that they will be successful in their attempts.

I’m going to tell you something.  Something you may have forgotten.  Something you may not have thought about in a while.  It is quite profound:  God believes in you.  How do I know this?  He created you in His image and likeness so He knows the “stuff” of which you are made.  How else do I know about this?  He sent His Son to become one of us so that He could save us from sin and death.

You may not be ready to hear that.  If so, it is because, somewhere along the line, you may have quit believing in yourself.  I urge you today to look deep within at the person you are and at what God is calling you yet to become. Know that God’s will is possible and that you have what it takes to accomplish His will.  How do I know that?  Well, because Jesus promised to send the Spirit to us.

Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we have been given and continue to receive grace upon grace to battle temptation and sin and to become more like Jesus every day.  Don’t persist in your unbelief; but, believe.
