Be Fulfilled

It really is that easy. Do you want to be fulfilled completely? You don’t have to climb Mt. Everest. You don’t have to take a solo transatlantic flight. You don’t have to soar in a hot air balloon. What you need to do is give of yourself completely and selflessly. God will do the rest. He always does.
I have met so many incredibly happy and fulfilled people in my years as a priest. These were all people who had come back from doing ministry of one kind or another. Perhaps it was taking the Eucharist to the homebound. Perhaps it was cooking or serving food in a soup kitchen. Perhaps it was staffing a homeless shelter. Perhaps it was teaching religious education. Whatever the ministry, serving others brought more joy to them than anything else they had done in life.
Why? They did not engage in the ministry for themselves, they did it for others. They did not engage in the ministry for reward. They were driven by a desire to serve. In doing something so sincere and selfless, they found great reward. They knew that they were doing what God would want of them and they felt incredibly joyful.
We have probably all had that experience at one time or another in our lives. Maybe we did something a bit reluctantly, spurred on by a family member or friend. When we finally decided to join them in some kind of good work, we felt a feeling that we could not describe. It was a feeling of happiness, joy, and fulfillment. It made us feel good about ourselves and even gave us a sense of hope.
God is good that way. He could have commanded us to serve one another whether we liked it or not. He could have made it arduous and distasteful. However, God wants us to be happy and fulfilled. He blesses us each time we move past our own desires and serve others instead. Learn the power of sincere and selfless contribution to another’s needs and experience fulfillment and joy.
