Make Time For Yourself

14 Sep

“If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness.”  ~ Unknown

We concern ourselves about a great many things in our day to day lives:  jobs, relationships, our future, and other types of things.  For many of us, though, we leave out the most important concern: our very selves.  All the aspirations that we have, all our hopes and dreams, will not be accomplished if we are not able to do what we need to do.

I have known many people throughout the years who have had a lot of big dreams and plans.  They worked long and hard on their plans all the while ignoring themselves.  They may have had physical manifestations of things happening to them but they ignored the symptoms.  They continued to plug along toward their goal.  Finally, becoming too ill or weak to continue, they sought out a doctor’s opinion all in vain.  Because they had waited too long, the illness had overtaken their bodies and they were diagnosed in terminal condition.

Where can we go and what can we do if we do not have the health and energy to do things?  We need to make sure that we attend to our own needs in order to be up to the tasks that face us.

This applies to our spiritual lives as well.  We are not simply “awarded” with a solid relationship with God.  We need to work at it each day of our lives in order to keep our relationship with the Lord as healthy as possible.  Otherwise, when we are overwhelmed with the cares of the world, we will try to turn to the Lord with a very immature and/or undeveloped faith and we will collapse.  We need to build a healthy relationship with God today in order to have what we need in the future.

FAITH ACTION:  Get in some good “me time” today, preferably including a healthy dose of prayer.
