What Are You Doing In This Pandemic?

“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.” Zig Ziglar

We all have twenty-four hour days.  Some of us feel like that is not enough time and others feel like it is way too much time.  It all depends upon how we fill — or leave empty — those twenty-four hours.  There are people during this pandemic who have taught themselves new languages or developed new skills.  Then, there are others who have finished series after series of television shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, or other streaming services.

If we do not have direction in our lives, we will not be able to use the time that we have each day productively.  In the perfect world, we should arrive at the late evening hours and say to ourselves, “Where has the day gone?  I still have so much more that I want to get done!” instead of saying throughout the day, “I can only take so many naps.”

The way people treat their time during this pandemic is pretty much the way they treat their spiritual lives.  Some people find time in their days to try new things in their spiritual lives.  They learn new ways to pray or reflect.  They take time to perform community service projects for others.  They do instead of simply exist.  Others never do more than the simple prayers they may have learned in their childhood.

Again, it is a matter of direction.  If our inner direction is not toward the Lord, we are not going to get a whole lot accomplished in our spiritual lives.  We should crave to draw closer to the Lord each day.  We should desire a deeper level of intimacy with our God than we had the day before.  We should allow our souls to direct our thoughts and actions each day rather than succumb to the interference of the world in which we live.

Make today count.  Don’t just sit around are lament that it is so long and there is nothing to do.  Instead, fill the seconds, minutes, and hours with deliberateness.

FAITH ACTION:  Try to learn something new today.
