Let ‘Em Hear You

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” ~ Will Ferrell, Elf

Some of you might think that this quote should have been on Christmas Day rather than at the end of the Christmas Season; however, I believe that it is important to bring to our attention one last time before we say adieu to Christmas. This is, in many ways, a follow up and continuation of yesterday’s theme. Let Christmas continue!

Whether we are singing a Christmas carol on Christmas morning or today, the enthusiasm and joy should be the same. Whether we are doing some kindness for another on Christmas morning or today, our love should be just as bountiful. In short, there should never be a lessening of the peace, love, and joy that we share with others because God never decreases what He gives to us. If anything, He gives us more the more that we give to others.

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” That is what Will Ferrell’s character, Buddy, said in the movie, Elf. In that same spirit, we could just as well say, “The best way to spread the Christian faith is by loving boldly.” There is no – repeat, NO – room in Christianity for lukewarm Christians. Jesus did not say, “Go out into the world and tell the Good News if and when you feel like it.” No. He commissioned us to go out. Go out.

When we go out, we have to be unafraid to proclaim the greatness and love of God. No one is going to want to listen to us if we come across like some lukewarm, uncommitted person. They will dismiss us immediately. Now, I am not saying to be an “in-your-face Christian.” However, we have to live our lives boldly and unapologetically. After all, we want our Father in Heaven to be proud of us rather than make Him shake His head in embarrassment for us.

FAITH ACTION: Tomorrow is the Baptism of the Lord and the last day of the Christmas Season. Let today count. Sing of the glory of God and share Christmas joy with all you encounter.
