Be Confident

“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”  ~ Rosa Parks

We second-guess ourselves a lot in life.  We wonder if we are in the right lane on the road, in the right line at the store, in the right group at events, and on and on.  Even when we know that we are correct, we see others who are doing something different and we begin to doubt that we are right.  If we ask the wrong person to validate what we are doing, they might tell us that we are wrong and we risk venturing out and doing something that we should not be doing.

Rosa Parks proclaimed a mighty maxim when she stated that “you must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”  There may be many people who try to sway us from what we are doing.  We should not let them make us question ourselves.  There might be others who attack us for what we are doing.  We must hold our ground if we are doing the right thing.

Doing the right thing never guarantees personal safety or comfort.  As a matter of fact, Jesus told His followers that they would be brought up before the authorities, that they would be attacked, and that they might even be put to death if they went out into the world and proclaimed the Good News.  However, going out was and is the right thing to do and we must be confident and unafraid.

We do not like to hear this kind of news.  We do not like to think about the fact that embracing the will of God might leave us in peril.  We will like what follows, though.  Jesus assured us that He would not abandon us, that He would give us the words to say, and that He would bring us home to Him at the end of our days.

Our jobs here on earth might promise us vacation time and a pension at the end of our service.  Jesus, on the other hand, promises us everlasting life if we are faithful to Him.  That is a superior deal for all of us!

FAITH ACTION:  If you have been avoiding doing something in your faith life out of fear, ask God for confidence to begin.
