What Do You See?

“To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail.” ~ Abraham Maslow

Why do we need to learn different ways to pray?  Why do we have to try different types of ministry?  Why do we need to associate with a great variety of people?  If we remain the same, if we only have a limited number of options in our daily repertoire, we will tend to do the same thing whether it works or not and whether it is prudent or not.

There are many ways to pray and many ways to serve God’s people.  We need to learn as many ways to pray as possible and practice as many ways to serve as we can.  Only then will we find out what is most comfortable for us and what will help us in the long run.

We cannot be afraid to “change up” our prayer life or our ministry.  Spirituality is not one-size-fits-all.  Additionally, what worked for us yesterday might not work for us today.  However, if we keep attempting to do something or utilize something that does not work for us anymore, that would be futile.

Just as we need to be careful about how we do things in our own spiritual lives, we must also make sure that we do not expect the same things from those around us.  They are different day by day as well.  If we expect them to do things the same way, to pray as we do, or to minister in a manner that is comfortable to us, we might very well stifle them if not chase them away from ministry or the Church altogether.

Allow God to work with you in His own good time and allow Him the same courtesy as He works with those around you.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to give you the grace that you need to see through His eyes today rather than through your own preconceptions.
