Who Says It Is Not Possible?

“For every reason it’s not possible, there are hundreds of people who have faced the same circumstances and succeeded.”  ~ Jack Canfield

I have to tell you that I am laughing pretty hard right now.  I saw this quote yesterday morning and really liked it.  I thought to myself, “That’s tomorrow’s daily reflection.”  I wrote it down and, as I generally do, wrote the Faith Action.  Then, it came time to write the part in the “middle”, the body of the reflection.

As I said, I wrote the quote and Faith Action down yesterday morning.  At 2:00 p.m., I was still looking at a big gap on the monitor.  I had my thought.  I just could not collect my thoughts into words.  The reflection became one of those things that I was tempted to say, “This is just not possible.”  I had writer’s block.

I did what I think others do when they have writer’s block as well.  I did other things.  I answered some correspondence.  I wrote a column for an upcoming edition of the diocesan newspaper.  I did everything but pay attention to the task at hand.  It was just too difficult for me and was taunting me.

What does one have to do in those circumstances?  For me, the answer came rather loud and clear:  get to work!  I forced myself to get back to the computer, pull the screen back up, and write.  I had to tell myself, “Come on.  You’ve done this before.”

Sometimes, our circumstances might tempt us to say, “I can’t do this.  It can’t be done.  It’s just not possible.”  We think that about our daily lives just as we often think that about our spiritual lives.  We say we cannot draw closer to the Lord.  We’ve done everything we can.  We can’t pray more.  We can’t spend more time in reflection.  We’ve contemplated ourselves into a tizzy.

Take a deep breath.  Let it out.  And then tell yourself, “Oh course you can do it.  God’s waiting to help you with it.”

FAITH ACTION:  Pray that those who have given up because they view their situation as impossible might find the grace to put their trust in the Lord and try again.
