Look To The Lord

It really is all about a matter of perspective, is it not? We all may know people who, in our estimation, should be totally unsatisfied with their lives; yet, they go about happy and carefree. We also know others who, again, in our estimation, should be ecstatic because they have all sorts of money and prestige; yet, they are miserable people.
We are all in the gutter, Oscar Wilde reminds us. We are in the gutter because of sin. Original sin put the world in the gutter in that we became mortal and corruptible. Personal sin puts us in the gutter as well since it causes us to take our eyes off of the Lord and our goal of eternal life and redirects our direction to the filth and grime promised to us by the world.
Yet, even in the midst of lying in the gutter, we have the choice of perspective. Lying in the muck, we could look downward and see all the filth. We could look to our left or our right and see nothing good, nothing admirable. Or, we could look up to the Lord and see the possibility of redemption.
God loves us too much to let us go. The most hurt that can be inflicted on God is for a soul to freely choose to live away from God for eternity. If a soul does not reject God, God will do anything and everything for that soul. The choice is up to each and every one of us.
We could lie in the filth of sin, corruption, and death — the end product of the promises of the world — or we could look up to the Lord, reach our hand in the air, and allow Him to grasp our hand and pull us out of the muck in which we often become mired.
