Shun Not The Difficult Road

“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.”  ~ Unknown

I spoke with someone just the other day about his life and how tough it appeared to be.  He spoke about being happy and fulfilled.  He said, “If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.  No matter how rough it might get, I know that it can always get better.”  I thought to myself, “What a super attitude!”

We have heard, in our lives, comments such as “take the road less traveled”.  It might be more difficult to traverse; however, the rewards awaiting those who travel it are stupendous. This kind of attitude is one that needs to be adopted by people of faith.  Our lives on this earth are not always easy.  Our lives become even more difficult if we accept the added burden of living the faith because that means that we become counter-cultural people.

We have to live against the culture of our world.  The world, steeped in sin, often goes against the values of Christ.  The world tells us that it is perfectly fine to take the lives of others in acts of abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, and doctor-assisted suicide.  We must be people who stand up for life.  The world tells us that it is all right to take advantage of others so that we can get ahead.  We must stand up for the rights of others, especially those who are disadvantaged.  I could go on; but, you know what I mean.

In order to be true Christians in the world, we have to take the difficult road.  We have to risk rejection and humiliation.  We have to risk injury to self.  We might even be called to risk our lives.  That is fine because our destination is not this world but the world to come, the Kingdom of Heaven.  And that destination is beautiful indeed.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God for the grace and courage needed to deal with any difficulties that may come your way today.
