Challenge Yourself

“If you want something you never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.”
~ Thomas Jefferson

It’s not easy and it’s not going to be handed to us.  If we want anything in life, we have learned that we have to go for it, we have to do all that we can to grasp it.  The same holds true for our faith lives and our relationship with God.  God is always with us and will never leave us.  However, by the choices we make in this world, we often leave God.

If we really want to draw closer to God, we must become more like His Son.  Jesus, after all, is the model of holiness and shows us the way to the Father.  We have to forget about our worldly wants and desires, to set them aside, and to grasp the Lord.  That, my friends, is incredibly hard to do.

“I you want something you never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.”  Have you ever volunteered at a nursing home, a hospital, a homeless shelter, or a soup kitchen?  If you want to draw closer to God, you might have to do what you’ve never done.  Have you ever forgiven someone who has wronged you so horribly?  If you want to draw closer to God, you might have to do what you’ve not yet done.  Have you ever apologized to someone you have wronged?  If you want to draw closer to God; well, you get the idea.

As I have said before, holiness isn’t easy.  It takes a lot of work.  It takes a lot of desire.  And it takes a lot of grace.  God gives us all the grace that we need if we ask for it.  The desire is probably already there.  What is left to us is the nitty-gritty, the hard work.  Are you up for it today?

FAITH ACTION:  Challenge yourself to go the extra mile, to do the extra thing, today so that you may become a better Christian.
