Don’t Compromise

“Remember who you are.  Don’t compromise for anyone, for any reason.  You are a child of the Almighty God.  Live that truth.”  ~ Lysa Terkeurst

There is a beautiful, tear-jerking scene in Disney’s The Lion King where Simba is forced to look deep within himself.  He sees his father in the sky and his father speaks to him telling Simba that he has forgotten who he was, therefore, he has forgotten his father.  Mufasa ends by telling Simba in his deep tones, “Remember who you are.”

We are children of God.  Yet, there are times that we forget who we are.  Therefore, we forget who God is.  We cannot possibly see God if we do not acknowledge who we are: children of God.  Yes, indeed.  Each and every one of us is a unique piece of God’s creation.  God made us and dwells within us.  When we come to know ourselves, we come to know God.

That is such a basic yet deep mystery.  We are children of God.  If we are, we must do all within our power never to bow to the power of the world.  The world wants us to forget who we are because if we forget ourselves, we will forget God.  The world has no desire for God.  It is so immersed in sin that the world has forgotten what it is a long time ago.  At one time, the world was a glorious part of God’s creation.  Yet, it lost its glory as original sin tainted it.

The world espouses other gods and other desires.  The world doesn’t care if we lose ourselves.  It wants us to find fulfillment in the world and not in God.  But, God is more powerful that any power on earth and God will keep us safe against the powers of the world if we ask Him to do so.  In order to do so, we must not lose sight of who we are: loved children of God.

Remember who you are.

FAITH ACTION:  Choose to live as a child of God today and reflect that reality by what you say and do.
