Rejoice In The Presence Of God
“An epiphany enables you to sense creation not as something completed, but as constantly becoming, evolving, ascending. This transports you from a place where there is nothing new to a place where there is nothing old, where everything renews itself, where heaven and earth rejoice as at the moment of creation.” ~ Abraham Isaac Kook
That is exactly the place we find ourselves in today’s liturgy: “a place where heaven and earth rejoice as at the moment of creation.” On this Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, we recall how God revealed Himself to the world through its representatives, the Magi. God revealed Himself in the person of Jesus, an innocent child. What a great mystery. What an awesome mystery. What a wonderful epiphany! God became one of us. He fulfilled the promise made generations before. He connected everything together in His Son.
While we celebrate the Epiphany today, it would be good for us if we examined our lives and tried to find the places that God reveals Himself to us. God does reveal Himself on a very regular basis but we often fail to recognize Him because of the distractions of the world as well as those in our lives. The ability to find God in our lives is a wonderful gift that He is willing to give to each and every one of us if we ask. God wants us to find Him, to see Him, and to communicate with Him. He wants us to be close to Him so that we do not get lost to the world.
Can you imagine standing on the very threshold of nothing new and nothing old, where everything renews itself, and where heaven and earth rejoices? What a wonderful place that must be. God reveals pieces of that moment each time we draw near to Him. God has given us incredible experiences in our lives, experiences where we catch glimpses of a powerful God who has humbled Himself to become one of us because of an overwhelming love for us.
When we are embraced in that kind of love, we do not know what to say. We do not know what to do. And that is okay. God doesn’t want us to say or to do anything at those moments. God just wants us to open ourselves to Him so that we can be as filled with His love as possible. Those brief, intense, and intimate moments are the stuff that can carry us through incredible distances, challenges, and suffering in life.
