Whatever You Have, Give It

The lesson of stewardship is one that each of us should learn. Being blessed richly by God, we need to face up to the fact that we were blessed for a reason: to share our many blessings with others.
God looks for worthy vessels. The best vessels, in God’s eyes, are ones that can hold huge amounts and yet, at the same time, leak. Yep. Leak. In other words, while we have much poured into us, we also let much pour out of us. We allow ourselves to be used, if you will, as a conduit for God’s love because we know that God’s gifts are given to enrich all of His people and not just ourselves alone. When we become a high-capacity leaky vessel then, we become quite useful to the Lord.
When we allow the Lord to use us, trust me, He will use us.
“If you have much, give of your wealth; if you have little, give of your heart.” This mandate, if truly lived, would transform the world. All of us have something. Even if what we have is not material, we have something.
Truth be told, sometimes the non-material is better than the material. We might have money at our disposal and that can help people. We might have an overabundance of food, clothes, or other material goods. They would be useful to others. Yet, if people receive our money or our material goods, they might still feel empty. But when we give of our love and our lives, we enrich people in ways that energize and reinvigorate them.
All of us have something to give. When we give it, we not only make someone else richer, we become richer as well because we live out our own mission, the mission entrusted to us by Jesus Christ.
That mission, lived out, truly is the path to holiness. Who doesn’t want that? Give, then, of your time, talent, and/or treasure freely and without cost.
