Share Your Uniqueness

The first time I remember my mind being blown was when I was very young and a teacher told us that there are no two snowflakes that are alike and that there will never be two snowflakes that are alike. I could not wrap my young mind around that concept. Then, as I grew older, I learned about other instances of the same thing: we all have unique fingerprints, our retinal scans are all unique, and on and on and on.
How, in all the great wide world, can there not be duplication? That concept truly boggles the mind.
Yet, if there is no one exactly like you and no one exactly like me, it is even more incumbent upon each and every one of us to make sure that we make our mark on this world. God has given us incredible gifts and talents and made us truly one-of-a-kind. He had a plan for doing so and part of His plan was to commission us to impact the world in our own unique way.
Too often, we try to compare ourselves with others. We compare height and weight and color. We compare attitude and talent. We compare anything that can be compared and try to ascribe “better” or “worse” to each of the comparisons. We are not better. We are not worse. We are wonderful, unique gifts of God to this world. In sharing what God has given us, then, we have a chance to enhance the world in a way no one else will ever be able to do.
Our gifts are unique. Our impact is unique. Make your mark on the world this day and encourage the unique individuals around you to make theirs as well. Do all that you can to create an environment where people do not feel that they are being compared to anyone else but, rather, loved for the uniqueness that is within them.
